History of Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès

1229: Creation of the University of Toulouse.

16th century: The University of Toulouse gains renown by welcoming renowned humanists such as Michel Servet, Étienne Dolet, Michel de l'Hospital, Rabelais and probably Montaigne.

1808: Creation of the Imperial University, bringing together the Faculties of Catholic and Protestant Theology, Literature, Law, Science and Medicine.

1968 – 1971: The University of Arts leaves the city centre and moves to the Mirail district. It becomes the Université Toulouse 2 – Le Mirail.

2007 – 2016: Reconstruction of the buildings on the Mirail campus.

Thursday 24 November 2016: Inauguration and name change to Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès.
