Research at the Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès

The Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès (UT2J) promotes international exchanges and cooperation in the field of research by welcoming scientists to the establishment and/or participating in joint research projects. All disciplines in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages and Arts are represented in the research carried out by the research units, laboratories and platforms housed mainly at the Maison de la Recherche on the Mirail campus.

Over the past few years, we have opened up to Mathematics, Computer Science and a number of Life Science disciplines, and our multi-disciplinary approach and grasp of complexity are a source of richness and originality that is recognized, among other things, through a national program such as TIRIS.

This concentration in a single location encourages:

  • Realization of high-level transdisciplinary research.

  • Increase of the visibility of the institution's scientific activities, which now have an impact on local, national and international networks.

Key Figures

  • 1 laboratory of excellence (Labex), 9 mixed units (with CNRS and other ministries) and 14 research units,

  • 5 multi-year research projects funded by Europe, over 30 projects supported by the ANR, 19 projects supported by the Occitanie Region,

  • nearly 800 teacher-researchers, 1,000 doctoral students and 200 support staff,

Hosting visiting teachers

Every year, the Université Toulouse - Jean Jaurès welcomes over 70 visiting professors from every continent to build or consolidate international exchanges and cooperation in research and training. Working closely with the community, these professors help to train students through courses and seminars, and work with laboratories to develop or initiate research projects.
